The New Cosmological Argument

I have often fought for the belief that we have a reasonable faith.  By this I mean that it makes sense, it isn't just some random collection of ancient wisdom.  It makes sense and is an intelligent approach to reality.  One of the many arguments for this cause that I greatly appreciate is the Cosmological argument, and related thoughts.  The ultimate statement for this is found in the Bible, in Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God...".  However, today we find support for the existence of God in an unlikely corner.

This week New Scientist posted an opinion piece by Amanda Gefter entitled "Concept of Hypercosemic God Wins Templton Prize."  The winner was one of the world's foremost theoretical physisists, Bernard d'Espagnat, and he was declared the winner in part for the following statement:

"There must exist, beyond mere appearances … a 'veiled reality' that science does not describe but only glimpses uncertainly. In turn, contrary to those who claim that matter is the only reality, the possibility that other means, including spirituality, may also provide a window on ultimate reality cannot be ruled out, even by cogent scientific arguments."

How remarkable to find such academic honesty.  One is reminded of another quote, and I'm totally messing it up, but it goes to the effect, that scientist cliimb the pinnacles of reality, only to find the summit occupied by generations of theologians and philosophers.
